Case Study: Emergency Exit Door Repair in Queens, NY
By NYC Doors and More
When keeping New York City properties safe and functional, NYC Doors and More is always up to the challenge. In this recent job in Queens, we were called in to handle a damaged emergency exit door, and what looked like a replacement job turned into an innovative, cost-effective repair solution.
The Problem:
A local facility in Queens had a severely worn emergency exit door. The original hinges had failed, making the door difficult to open and unsafe for emergency use. The client needed a fast, reliable solution to return the door to working condition, without a full replacement.
Why It Matters
This project is a great example of our mission: We don’t just fix doors, we find innovative solutions. By saving the existing door and upgrading its hardware, we helped our client avoid unnecessary costs while improving safety and reliability.
Our Solution:
Rather than replacing the entire door, our technician performed a detailed on-site assessment and delivered a solution focused on durability, safety, and cost-efficiency.
Here’s what we did:
-
Removed the old hinges: The door was stripped of its broken components.
-
Installed a heavy-duty continuous hinge: These hinges distribute weight evenly, preventing future sagging or stress.
-
Mounted a commercial-grade door closer: This ensures smooth, controlled closure, crucial for emergency doors.
-
Tested the system for safety and performance.
The result? A fully restored emergency exit door that operates better than ever meets local safety codes.
