Case Study: Commercial Door Repair in Manhasset, NY
At NYC Doors and More, we specialize in solving door problems that others can’t. This case study highlights a recent project in Manhasset, Long Island, where we restored a commercial door to perfect working order after it suffered severe damage during a Fire Marshal inspection.
The Challenge – Damaged Door & Safety Risk
A commercial property in Manhasset faced a serious issue:
-
The main entry door wouldn’t open, close, or lock properly.
-
During an inspection, the Fire Marshal had to force the door open, which damaged the frame, latch, and hinges.
-
The result? The door became extremely difficult to operate, creating a significant safety concern for the business.
Our Solution – Professional, Targeted Repairs
We applied our proven Problem → Solution → Result approach.
Step 1 – Remove Damaged Hardware
Our technicians carefully removed the broken spring hinges and inspected the frame and latch mechanism for additional hidden damage.
Step 2 – Upgrade to Heavy-Duty Continuous Hinge
Instead of replacing the old hardware with the same type, we installed a long, heavy-duty continuous hinge to:
-
Distribute the door’s weight evenly
-
Increase clearance between the door and frame
-
Improve alignment and smooth operation
Step 3 – Install a Surface-Mounted Door Closer
We added a surface-mounted door closer for better control and consistent closing, reducing the risk of slamming and ensuring security compliance.
The Results – Safe, Smooth & Code-Compliant
After our repairs:
-
The door opens and closes effortlessly
-
The latch engages securely
-
The system meets fire safety and accessibility requirements
