Wood Door Restoration in Tudor City, Manhattan
π οΈ Project Overview
NYC Doors and More was recently contacted for a unique restoration project in the heart of Tudor City, one of Manhattanβs most architecturally rich and historic districts. The goal is to restore a beautiful but weathered wooden entry door while preserving its original character and upgrading its functionality.
π§ The Challenges
Aged and fading wood finish on both the interior and exterior sides
Outdated door closer causing functional issues
The client wanted to retain the original historic hardware
Door needed realignment to close and latch properly
β¨ Our Restoration Process
Our skilled technicians carefully approached this door restoration with a balance of preservation and performance:
- Stripped and sanded the original finish down to bare wood
- Cleaned and protected the original hardware (hinges, handle, decorative elements)
- Aligned the door for smooth operation
- Installed a new heavy-duty door closer for long-term durability
- Applied a refined stain and protective finish to revive and protect the wood
